Oh. My. God. I just can't get over the fact that this is a painting and not a photo. Incredible!

I saw that picture, was confused and wasn't sure, if this was a photorealistic painting or just a photo, because... fuck, it's deviantart...! I zoomed in and was convinced it would be a photo. Then I read one comment (once again confused), looked at the describtion and... was. just. thrilled! I mean... you can see every very thin little hair on the boys skin, it's unbeliveable! :O

the only way i ca tell this is a painting is because the ear is to low and the hair. at some points it looks so fucking real, while other times it almost, finally, looks like paint.

you are a bad ass.

It's the second work of yours that reminds me old victorian Memento Mori photos. Don't know why. In this one, probably has to do with the fixed eyes, the skin tone and generally the lack of life/movement. The child is "arranged" or, at least, gives that impression. Well, anyway, I just love it :-)

Exactly. It's abysmal the kind of crap you get on DA's front page, knowing that this is out there, going unnoticed...

It's Gottfried Helnwein, how the balls does it go unnoticed. He photographed one of my favorite musicians (Manson) and that's how I discovered him. Now I didn't know he painted like this, or I would've been raving about him long before now. <3

So as it turns out I should have done a little more research :) lets just cool it
However I stand by the fact that plenty of unknown artists are out there with much better work than what you currently see at the top of the front page these days.

He's pro, pro pro pro with all the letters pro. He got his art exposed in all kind of well-know museums in the world and he's a recognized artist. So already getting all the atention he needs.

But I do agree somehow, artists this days need to improve their skills and challenge themselves. Open new paths in art.

Problem is...his artwork is more recognized in Europe. Living in Brazil, I have never heard of him until I found him on dA:( seriously.
